Brenda Havens started writing for publications during college, serving as a short-story writer for middle school readers. She was a staff writer, reporter, editor and photographer for two Illinois newspapers, and has developed and published curriculum materials. She currently writes stories, children’s books, poems and articles, as well as teaching high schoolers how to write. Brenda, her husband, Al, and Spanky, the white chihuahua, live in New Jersey.
Brenda’s first book-in-print feature Gabby the Canada goose, who makes friends with 8-year-old Noel, on the shore of the big and beautiful Lake Superior. The story started when, in real life, a lonely little goose waddled up to Al in front of Cabin 5 in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The little goose returned every day that week for more treats.
